Jake’s Tanzania Fundraising Page

A word from the Vine Trust...

Jake is fundraising in aid of their Vine Trust School Expedition to Tanzania. Vine Trust School Expeditions are an opportunity for students to make a real and lasting difference to Tanzanian communities living in poverty. Working closely with our in-country partners, volunteers construct individual family homes for some of the world's most vulnerable people - providing shelter, security and hope, and empowering communities to achieve a brighter future.

Donations made through this page will contribute towards the cost of Jake's expedition, including international flights, accommodation, food, in-country transport, and the purchase of construction materials and resources. Any additional funds raised will go towards future Vine Trust construction projects and the development of Vine Trust's programmes.

Many thanks for supporting Vine Trust – together we are helping to support vulnerable communities through effective and sustainable development.

Fundraising Activity

I found out in summer 2025 that I have the amazing opportunity to travel to Tanzania on an expedition with Earlston High School and Vine Trust. During the fortnight away we will be doing a variety of activities, including building a house for a family affected by HIV/AIDS. We are staying in Moshi, a town near the base of Mt Kilimanjaro, during our expedition and aim to go round the town meeting and supporting local families. I’m keen to be a part of this trip as I think it’ll be an important experience for me as a teenager in school to experience a new culture and life outside of Scotland, but also I am excited for the challenge of fundraising the money and earning my trip. I am responsible to make £3,500 before my trip to cover flights and accommodation and any contribution no matter how big will make a huge difference to help me achieve this goal and make a difference.

How I'm raising money

Over the course of the next year and couple months I will be doing a variety of different activities ranging from physical challenges to bakesales and quiz nights. I plan in June to do a sponsored walk with two of my friends. Our goal is across the three of us to climb the Eildon North Hill until we reach the equivalent prominence from base to peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, where we will be staying on our trip. This comes to a total of 4,900 metres, which is 46 times spread across the three of us! I will also go round my local town selling my baking and offering services such as cleaning people’s driveways.
